Hooray for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee!

Everyone in Britain is preparing for Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations where she will be commemorating 60 years on the throne. Well-done Elizabeth!

The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 (her Coronation took place on 2nd June 1953). The only other time a monarchy reached their 60-year reign, was in 1897 by Queen Victoria.

Buckingham Palace is responsible for organizing the events which are set to take place this weekend from 2nd-5th June. London's streets are already adorned with Union Jack flags and the shops filled with memorabilia. Even the work of famous graffiti artist Banksy, has created artwork for the event!

What will you be doing to celebrate this once in a life time occasion?

We Love!

Here at Birdmotel, we have been inspired by the mouth-watering fashion trends this season. As winter is knocking on our door and we all need those fashion essentials to brighten up our day!

Ok, not the real thing…. But faux fur is a MUST this winter. A fur gillet will glam up any outfit giving it a sophisticated look. When that chill factor drops and your reluctant to venture outside, wrap up warm with a fur scarf or vest! These staple pieces will instantly update your wardrobe.

High heel, mid or flat, ankle boots are versatile, they can be worn for any occasion while keeping your tootsies warm and cosy!

We absolutely love Alexander McQueens mix of fur with lace. The look is futuristic and fresh! Cinch A-line dresses and baggy tops in at the waist with a statement metallic belt.

When we think of pleated skirts, we think of the clumsy and old-fashioned skirts of a by gone era. But that is all a thing of the past! Pleated skirts are back and John Galliano has displayed a fabulously modern take. This style is of grandeur and flamboyance. Team with a cropped leather jacket or mohair jumper for a luxurious feel.

Nuffnang Fashionopolis - The Business of Blogging

After the whirlwind events of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week it was time for another Event that I was eagerly looking forward to... The Nuffnang Fashionopolis 2012. The event was held in Melbourne on 12th May 2012 and was as Australian first -- an event specifically for fashion bloggers

Although most bloggers say they Blog from their couch , the beautiful set up by Domain flowers and the inviting bed provided an excellent backdrop for the days events.

From a small business perspective the event was a great platform to get in touch with bloggers at various stages of their blogging journey.

It was great to hear Phoebe from Lady Melbourne talk about your Blog is your brand. And going by the popularity of Instagram and Pinterest , Phoebe rightly pointed out that images were the new currency.

The event also had its share of very well heeled ladies and gentlemen.

The other highlight was the discussion on monetising your blog-- a section which was quite interesting. With the advent of FELLT featuring the Top 10 bloggers of Australia monetising a blog is definitely happening. And judging by the sartorial sense of the bloggers I met it certainly is only a matter of time when fashion trends move out of the hands of a select few and becomes more accessible to everybody through the power of blogs !!
