Layer them up gals...

Clockwise from top left: Gold Rose Bangle by Bec & Bridge, Gold
Geometric Bangle by Indy C, Thin Floral Cream Bangle and
Thick
Red Floral Bangles by Tree of Life.

Can't get enough of bangles at the moment. What is great is all the ones photographed are between $7-$30, so you can afford to really layer them up in different combinations.

I am particularly into those boho-esque floral ones, worked back with metals.

Our new Christmas shopalog hit the birdmotel website today.

It's got some super gorgeous pieces from One Teaspoon, Tigerlily, Mermaid Sister, Gentle Fawn, Flamingo Sands, Amber and Thomas, Indy C, Erana and Daska, and Trinket.

I can't believe there is only 10 days to Christmas!

Gee, do think I have a type?

From top, clockwise: Jonny Lee Miller, Brandon Flowers, Mark Ruffalo and Jesse Bradford.

It seems I am so predictable when it come to whom I chose to swoon over. Obviously all I want is brown hair, soulful eyes, and cheekbones. Dimples optional.

Imagine if I was in charge of hiring models for our guy's site lazyguy. The results could be hilarious!

Red Hot Denim...

Teen Vogue, Dec/Jan 2009

Can't get enough of coloured denim at the moment. In particular, I think red denim is, well, red hot!

Just received my latest copy of US Teen Vogue in the mail yesterday, and just had to scan in this pic of Emmy Rossum wearing a cool pair of red skinnies, which look very much like the GRAB Rushcutter Juicy Jeans currently for sale on birdmotel. What I like is that she has made them look a bit girlie, rather than taken the obvious rock-chick styling option.

Ps - Thanks MGMT, you rocked last night!!

Inspiration...

I am just smitten by French magazine Dealer Deluxe. Firstly I adore the cover girl who still looks beautiful even though she is biting her lip and is wearing the best American Indian head piece that I ever laid eyes on.

And the shoots are just so gorgeous, languid, dreamy but gritty, bordering on quirky but with that added pinch of sensuality. Right up my alley! The only problem is that it currently produced quarterly, which means a torturous wait until the next issue.

Les Chiffoniers

Les Chiffoniers Autumn Winter 08/09

Famous for their PVC pant that Kate Moss chose to wear at Glastonbury, this English label's winter collection photographed on Daisy Lowe mixes glossy black, with sequins, silk chiffon and exposed zippers. Perfect for rock stars or those dating a rock star.

What I am reading...

I am loving both of these books because they are in interview format. Which means I have been able to just pick them up and read as I please.

If you are into photography at all, then you should read Image Makers Image Takers by Anne-Celine Jaeger. Absolutely brilliant, you gain insight into not only the creative process, but also the business side of photography. So if you ever wanted to know what inspires Mario Sorrenti or Anton Corbijn. Or how the picture editor of the New York Times Magazine, Kathy Ryan, makes the decision on who to hire to shoot the next fashion spread? Or how David LaChappelle's brain works? This is the book for you.

Fashion Now: i-D Selects the World's 150 Most Important Designers has drool worthy photography and asks deep questions such as 'Is designing difficult for you and, if so, what drives you to continue? Awesome.

Amazing photos of Lou Doillon's new Lee Cooper range as seen in my favourite magazine, Lula Girl of my Dreams. Plus, an interview so you can read more about her.

You can nab your own piece of her summer 08 collection on birdmotel right now!

Shhhh....secret squirrel

Last night in a space that normally is the cool store Somedays in Surry Hills, the Secret Squirrel team - Andrew and Bri - had a party to showcase their new summer 2008 collection. Full of searing bright primary colours in silk and linen, contrasting with black and earthy tones, the range is creative but so wearable. Think simple sexy shapes with quirky touches like oversized bows.

Birdmotel will have pieces from this range available for sale within a week. Stay tuned!

Abbey Lee...

Photo Credit: Abbey Lee, The Moment Blog, NY Times

The amazing Abbey Lee photographed backstage at New York Fashion week. I remember seeing Abbey a couple of years ago in the Little Lady lookbook - and boy she has come a long way since then. She slimmed down a lot - which she probably had to do to get the work overseas. I don't think she is rake-thin which is good, rather I'd say she still looks healthy...and I guess it has paid off for her. Go Abbey!

This picture of her has inspired me to go in a particular direction for one of our up-and-coming summer shoots for birdmotel. That turquoise green colour is one of my favourites, and in lace it is pretty cool, and suddenly becomes vintage-y.

Erin W...

I so love by this shot of model Erin Wasson. It actually has the vibe of One Teaspoon's injection range for high summer. All neutral colours, menswear inspired, and rough cut-off denim shorts. Looking forward to getting that into stock!
