Winter Hill

Ash and Dan in the English-inspired garden for the English-inspired Shoot.

So, with continued 30 degree plus days still persisting in the southern states, we're now officially in cool weather mode at birdmotel! All I can think about is the Autumn 2008 Winter Shopalog.

The latest story was photographed at the most amazing house in Summer Hill, with Ash as our model. So many thanks go out to Sophie and her family (hi Luke, hope we didn't freak you out too much!) for allowing us to have the run of the place for the day. And to Jeanmarie who helped us organise it all. Can't wait for you all to see the results.

Sweet Sufjan

Sufjan Stevens performed at the State Theatre last night as part of the Sydney Festival. I am kind of at a lost for words to describe the performance. A couple that do come to mind are mesmerising, uplifting, beautiful, cerebral, genius.

His voice and the music created by him (on piano, guitar, banjo) and his amazingly young, talented backing band and brass section, reverberated through the space, making people nod, sway, close their eyes. Dreamy.

He also made us laugh. Talented and cute.

Read more about Sufjan Stevens....here.

Bargain Buy

I am suitably in love with these $5 gold hoop earrings I bought at Diva this weekend. Love that they are super huge (Lily style) with a fabulous beaten texture which makes them a little unusual and not so bling. Score!

Peachy keen...

I just can't get enough of anything peachy, coral, light tangerine.

Clockwise from top left: 1930s vintage coral ring from eBay, Cameron Diaz
working a cute coral mini dress, peach frangipani flowers which also smell
like peaches, inspiration on my toes - Kit nailpolish in Havainas Coral,
coral cardigan from APC France, and the Ranch Rib Tee from Little Lady is
not only a great shade but also so comfy!

Hip hip hooray

Had a fabulous birthday on the weekend, thanks to Dan and my friends who were in Sydney to help me celebrate - my birthday is at the worst time of year, so many people are away, but that
normally doesn't stop me for having a small gathering.

Had drinks at the newly renovated wine bar at the Light Brigade in Woollahra. Then yummy Lebanese food later on Cleveland street, Surry Hills. Had a fun night - thanks Dan, JM, Bill, Luca, Enzo and Chantel!

Also received some cool gifts!

Clockwise from top left: divine red enamel brooch from JM and Bill,
plaited leather bracelet from Dan, Vintage 80s leather sling envelope bag
from Dan, and Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty & Everything
Glamour book from Dan's mum, Barbara.

2008

Have a good feeling about 2008. Shared the last night of 2007 with Dan, and our friends Bill and JM, at the Gazebo Wine Bar in the Cross. JM thought the place had a very NY vibe. She wore a very cute green dress from Morrison. I went for volume in the end, with a $20 smocked brown paisley silk dress from the Byron Bay Markets, so I could eat and eat.

Because I am an addicted to lists, I have jotted down some of my goals for 08:
  • Read more books, rather than mags
  • See more live gigs (off to a good start with this one - already have tickets to see Sufjan Stevens and Arcade Fire this month)
  • Eat less grease
  • Style a music video (don't forget me Bill!)
  • Organise another trip to the US, this time make it to New York
  • Buy something from the APC online store
  • Create new magazine sections for Bird Motel
  • Have us featured in Lucky USA
  • Make less lists
