The idea that there is "magic" in all the details, is the fundamental building block behind House of Wilde. It's the labour of love that goes into the handcrafted pieces, that gives each garment its unique charm. Like a magpie to a piece of silver, the embellishment and hand crafted elements draws you in, leaving you wanting to adorn the garment with love and pride. "Love letters on the Rocks" plays with the notion of "The Flinstones" for this debut range, this range is a good tasting plate for what's to come. Blown up ikats and batiks, baby doll shapes, crochet panelling and bone and night sequins all come together to make this range. It has a naivety and a relaxed edge, but is still very cool, and oh so wearable!

Colour, colour, colour

Whether its colour blocking or a colour pop, now is the time to ban yourself from wearing your drab blacks and grey and try some colour. You’ll love it, and no matter what skin tone and hair colour, there is a colour that will look fab on you!

• Tell us a little about yourself? I’ve not had any formal fashion training its just been something that I have loved and has turned into the business that it is today. I love what I do and feel very lucky to be able to do something that fills me up!!

• Describe the Minty Meets Munt girl? In essence the minty girl is a lover of fashion and follows it from runway to realway but in following the trends shes a confident girl and as a result adds her own twist. For her this is important.

• What inspires you? Lots of things but the beauty in the every day, sunrises n sunsets, fabrics, art, photography n mother nature, my kids, elderly people and the list goes on!!!!

Game Girl, French Vogue, May 2009

I have been meaning to post this piece of editorial for such a long time because I think it seriously is BEST swimwear shoot I have ever seen. Ever.

Starring the amazing Daria, it was styled by Emmanuelle Alt, with photography by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Aside from the roadside USA locations (my dream place to shoot), I love how each photo is captioned Daria Vs...whoever she is bashing up! Also love the cowboy boots and use of denim to tie all the pics together.

French Vogue, May 2009.

I know, it's so hot, how can I possibly be even vaguely excited about winter?

Well, I am. Why? Because it's going to be about three key things - denim, sequins and leather. I adore these pics from French Vogue because they show that you just need a couple of key pieces - sequin jacket, distressed denim, chambray shirt, high-waisted leather skirt, heavy chain necklace (looks a lot like the Mezi one currently on birdmotel) - to mix to maximum effect.

The three spring birdmotel shoots are coming together. Well the seeds for styling, location, models, make-up, hair, and photography are planted and are truly growing nicely. There are always anxious moments when I panic that the clothing and accessories that I carefully ordered 4-5 ago months ago will actually gel into some nice themes. It always works out, but I was born worried.

The clothes are starting to pour in and I have been creating mood boards with some of my favourite pics.

The first story is 80s rock. I am quite inspired by this shoot because I recently went to an 80s theme party as Slash, and ever since I have been strangely possessed by him. Bleached denim, leather, studs, short bodycon dresses, zippers, dark eyes, pale lips. Bring it on.

I love the feeling here that Annie has captured 'a moment'. The green cast, the crinkled white blouse, Natalie's porcelain skin with red lips, makes it feel like a Pre-Raphaelite painting. Also love how she is emerging from the blackness of the camellia tree behind her, like it could engulf her. Brilliant.

Film Noir by Leibowitz...

I searched and searched for my favourite all time Annie Leibowitz shot, all to no avail. It is of Tom Cruise. I know. But it is the most amazing atmospheric photo of him walking in heavy rain, the kind that slants like a curtain billowing in the wind. The kind from old movies. He wears a dark blue suit with the collar up, his body is slouched but his eyes, his eyes are focused and piercing at the lens. And it is infused with green light that is in so many of Annie's shots.

I love that photo. It makes me so mad that I know that the large format slide is sitting in a photo agency in Sydney, and has been for so many years, and no one has published it here. If anyone owns the copy of Vanity Fair that appeared in the States, let me know!

So instead, here is her series of her photographs called 'Film Noir' featuring some of the biggest celebs in Hollywood. I also have a soft spot for these: the light, the sets, the drama. Brilliant.

I have been planning sections for the birdmotel Spring Magazine this weekend, and with the weather being so miserable, I turned to one of my all time favourite celebrity fashion shoots for happy inspiration. The shoot I am refering to appeared in the December 2004 issue of US Elle, and featured the divine Natalie Portman.

Now, singling this out as one of my favourite celebrity shoots of all time is a big call for me because my mind holds many in high esteem. Namely because I spent some years working at Celebrity Photo Agency, where I was exposed to and placed the work of the best portrait [celebrity] photographers in the world, like Annie Leibowitz and Greg Gorman. Watching their work roll in each month was always a joy, and there was a lot to love.

This story in ELLE, was photographed by the talented Giles Bensimon. It is the saturated colour of the location, the beachy clothing and in particular the amazing jewellery that drips around Natalie's neck in every frame, that still, five years on, I just adore.

This shoot makes me happy because Natalie is such a natural beauty and well, because truth be known and I will admit it even though it is not fashionable...I love clear bright colour. The type of colour that speaks of tropical beaches, exotic flowers and fruity cocktails.

'Surf Report' by Mario Testino, Harper's Bazaar USA, April 1996.

Spent a couple of hours flicking through my collection of US Harper's Bazaar magazines last night. My collection starts in 1994 and ends in 2000, spanning the time Liz Tilberis is credited to turning it around into one of the most influential fashion mags in the world. Of course I also own every issue of British Vogue Liz edited from 88-91...having carted them around like my treasure, breaking my back everytime we move...but I'll revisit those another time.

Every editorial is stunningly shot by countless well-known photographers and styled to perfection largely by SaraJane Hoare, Tonne Goodman, Elissa Santisi and Melanie Ward.

I hope to post some shoots that still to this day re-ignite my love of fashion and that get my creative mind ticking at warp speed.

The shoot above of Kate Moss is titled 'Surf Report' from the April 1996 issue. Photographed by Mario Testino, Kate forever the chameleon, simply radiates from every page as the Californian beach babe. I know that birdmotel has moved on from its original beach-girl roots (which sometimes makes me sad), but if I found the time and money to create another swimwear/surf store, I'd use these pics as the starting point for sure.

Had a gorgeous weekend that has basically consisted of shopping and beach walking. Mariam and I indulged in a bit of vintage scouring, and managed to score some pieces for the upcoming birdmotel Autumn shoots and for myself - more on that later.

Then in Dolly Up on Cleveland, I found myself totally drawn to a photo of Jane Fonda.

And it got me thinking about icons, old and new, and just how much I actually enjoyed my first job as a photo researcher at the celebrity photo agency. Being paid to look at pictures of beautiful people all day was my idea of bliss back then - and well, I had my favourites. Everyone knew that the Kate Moss folder had permanent residence on my desk, and never made it back into the filing cabinet!

So this week, I am going to post about woman whose heyday were in 60s and 70s, and who continue to inspire choices I make about clothing and photography today.

The Youth by MGMT show how much fun sparkle can be!

Every winter 09 range I looked at had something sequinned featured, whether it was just a trim or a full spangly dress. But I guess the old saying ‘once bitten, twice shy’ applies to me as a buyer.

You see last winter I ordered a few sequinned pieces for sale on birdmotel, and no one was interested. Why? I don’t know. Maybe because most of the pieces, even the full on silver sequinned dress by One Teaspoon, was designed for day wear.

Confusing, and honestly, who in their right mind would feel comfortable walking down the street wearing that dress in the middle of the day in Australia, blingin’ away. Not many I’d think, no matter how cool you were.

So again, faced with shiny cardigans, jumpers, dresses, skirts, and harem pants, I said ‘no thanks’.

It will be interesting to watch and see if it is picked up by the masses this time around.

It'll be a shame if it isn't, because a little bit of sparkle can be so much fun.

I was seriously struggling to get into winter mode, what with the sweltering heat in the Sydney this week. But I can't ignore it any longer as there are birdmotel winter shoots to complete and stock about to arrive at any moment.

But after spending a solid day yesterday compiling mood boards for the shopalog, and then piecing together outfit ideas from the many clothing and accessory items that we have ordered, I am getting quite excited! There is a lot to like, and a few new designers too, which is great.

I also trawled international online boutiques last night and fell in love with quite a lot. Below is just a small selection of things I want and am inspired by. May have to get a friend to go into Urban Outfitters for me though - hello JM and Bill - as they still don't ship to Australia. What's with that!

Last night, Franz Ferdinand performed an energetic set at the Enmore in Sydney. They are totally great live, really if you haven't seen them live, you should next time they are in town. Lots of fun and I couldn't stop staring at how fast Nick McCarthy was strumming the guitar. Freaky!

Favourite song of the night: Ulysees.

The support band Temper Trap also impressed me big time. Their song Sweet Disposition has been floating around in my head all day. Check out the video.

Can't get enough of coloured denim at the moment. In particular, I think red denim is, well, red hot!

Just received my latest copy of US Teen Vogue in the mail yesterday, and just had to scan in this pic of Emmy Rossum wearing a cool pair of red skinnies, which look very much like the GRAB Rushcutter Juicy Jeans currently for sale on birdmotel. What I like is that she has made them look a bit girlie, rather than taken the obvious rock-chick styling option.

I am just smitten by French magazine Dealer Deluxe. Firstly I adore the cover girl who still looks beautiful even though she is biting her lip and is wearing the best American Indian head piece that I ever laid eyes on.

And the shoots are just so gorgeous, languid, dreamy but gritty, bordering on quirky but with that added pinch of sensuality. Right up my alley! The only problem is that it currently produced quarterly, which means a torturous wait until the next issue.

I am loving both of these books because they are in interview format. Which means I have been able to just pick them up and read as I please.

If you are into photography at all, then you should read Image Makers Image Takers by Anne-Celine Jaeger. Absolutely brilliant, you gain insight into not only the creative process, but also the business side of photography. So if you ever wanted to know what inspires Mario Sorrenti or Anton Corbijn. Or how the picture editor of the New York Times Magazine, Kathy Ryan, makes the decision on who to hire to shoot the next fashion spread? Or how David LaChappelle's brain works? This is the book for you.

Fashion Now: i-D Selects the World's 150 Most Important Designers has drool worthy photography and asks deep questions such as 'Is designing difficult for you and, if so, what drives you to continue? Awesome.

The amazing Abbey Lee photographed backstage at New York Fashion week. I remember seeing Abbey a couple of years ago in the Little Lady lookbook - and boy she has come a long way since then. She slimmed down a lot - which she probably had to do to get the work overseas. I don't think she is rake-thin which is good, rather I'd say she still looks healthy...and I guess it has paid off for her. Go Abbey!

This picture of her has inspired me to go in a particular direction for one of our up-and-coming summer shoots for birdmotel. That turquoise green colour is one of my favourites, and in lace it is pretty cool, and suddenly becomes vintage-y.

You don't know how excited I am! I have managed to secure for birdmotel, the Lou Doillon Summer 08 collection for Lee Cooper. Thanks so much to Berto - you're the best for thinking of us first to sell the range online in Australia!

As you may or may not know, Lou is the daughter of Jane Birkin and Film Director Jacques Doillon...so she has excellent genes (no pun intended) and I personally adore her undone, quirky style.

Since I have started to dabble a little in the other-side of styling (i.e., working outside the fashion realm) I can't help but dissect photographs like these. Questions like: is Mary-Kate's personal style and/or preferences the final word is what she wears...and how much is Joe's input? And how influential is the magazine in the direction of the shoot like this?

Such a fine balancing act when everyone has an opinion, but here the end result is pure harmony.

Kicking goals all over the place...

Way back on January 2, I wrote a list of goals for myself to achieve in 2008. Happy to report that so far, so good.

See more live gigs, maybe half a tick!

Others not so good, read more books...so hard when I keep buying more and more magazines. I don't know who I was kidding with the eat less grease thing, that was never going to happen. And still no new magazine sections for Bird Motel...any ideas shoot them my way people.

But the one I am most happy to be crossing off the list is style a music video.

Bill did not disappoint me, with the opportunity to work on the clip for 'Could This Be' by Lover's Electric. Big shout out to the lovely Eden Boucher who shared her vision and whom I share co-styling kudo's with; to Mariam from Sony BMG for her sweetness, and of course Bill who believed and trusted me implicitly.

Don't want to reveal too much, but it was a blast and think it is going to rock.

The brand new Australian version of Grazia magazine hit the news stands yesterday and it is pretty good. So it should be and I do hold high hopes for it ! With Alison Veness-McGourty at the helm, she has a team of seasoned professionals at her side. What I can't believe is that they will churn out slick fashion features on a weekly basis! Go team.

Jodhi in that dress!

In this issue there is an article on Jodhi Meares. Some of you have already contacted me about the dress she is wearing. It is called the Navajo Dress in the pastel quills print, and yes it is Tigerlily, and yes it is amazing, and yes birdmotel has it on order.

Bad news is...it does not deliver into stock till November. I know, but the wait will be worth it. Take comfort in the knowledge that you would freeze to death in it if you tried to wear it at the moment.

Will look perfect with the APC floral dress I purchased - yes, I finally succumbed. Ordered it on Friday night and received it three days later by FedEX. Pretty amazing considering it is shipped from France. Of course, now I want more.

Lovers Electric

Last night I went to along to see Lovers Electric play at the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown. Except, the Sando (as it is known) advised that they had been dropped and could no longer play at the venue. What!?

But you know, sometimes things do happen for a reason. Instead they craftily pasted a sign over the billposter outside the hotel advising that they will be playing down the road, inside a cosy vintage store called Chasing Stella. A big group of us headed down there at 9.30, to be greeted by the band, wine, jelly beans and lighting provided by candles and fairy lights. Sweet. Take that big, smelly ugly pub!

The couple, originally from Adelaide, only just landed in Sydney after a stint in London. Bill has been raving about them for some weeks, and they did not disappoint live, made greater by the intimate space. Eden has great style (probably something to do with the fact that she was a fashion designer in the UK) and David is both talented and lovely.

They even broke for an intermission of bingo….which birdmotel model Louise won. Some people are just born beautiful and lucky!

They have just been signed by Sony and will be releasing an album in July. You can find out more about them or listen to their music on their website www.loverselectric.com.au

Best part, I got to mix music with vintage shopping. As we staggered out at 12pm, I couldn’t help myself from buying this amazing handbag. Score!

As always, my heart is drawn to bright colour and anything 70s pretty. I am especially lusting after what walked down the runway at Zimmermann. What is it about faded florals, bleached denim and anything with a vintage inspired print, that I just can't get enough of?

So we are stocking Flamingo Sands for Summer 08, and their RAFW show yesterday confirmed for me that it is 'right' for birdmotel. A lot of the styles I have already placed on strutted down the runway in a flurry of colour and glitter: a rainbow stripe bandeau bikini, a cheeky red and strawberry printed string bikini, and a low slung boyleg bikini in their trademark glossy jungle/ floral collage print. I am suitably excited to have their sexy swim hit our site in September.

The One Teaspoon show started with an amazing animation set to Elton John's Tiny Dancer. Maybe I am a geek for appreciating all the work that would have gone in to it, as no-one else seemed that taken by it??

Even though the seating made it almost impossible to see anything clearly, a couple of things really have stuck in my mind from the One Tea collection:
A jersey pink mini dress with dangly ties
Black leather shorts
Super baggy 3/4 cuffed pants
Those gladiator boots and shoes (will find out if they plan to produce them next week at my private showing)

Going to check out the show that Talulah are taking part in later this afternoon. They are getting quite a bit of press and am considering them for birdmotel. Would love to know if anyone has any thoughts. Has anyone heard of them?

Shoe Day

This week is nuts! With so much winter stock flooding through our doors at birdmotel, fashion week in full swing, and appointments to see summer 08, it is pretty hard to concentrate. Went to the Flamingo Sands show today (more on them later), and wore my new shoes purchased from Country Road on the weekend. They are pretty comfy for a wedge, especially when worn with wool tights as pictured.

Not as comfy as the havaiana's though. Havaiana have set up a custom-bar at fashion week, where delegates can pick and choose their own colour combination and have it made right in front of their eyes. I went for tone silver/gunmetal, in the new slim line design. Come on summer....oh yeah, right, winter hasn't even begun.

I just want everything in Jane Mayle's Spring 08 collection!

Having been an admirer of her clothing (and shoes!) since she first launched in the late 90s with her Phare label. I can still remember the small article I read about her in US Harper's back then, and thinking 'wow, she has that sweet mixed with masculine, NY thing, so perfect'.

I just love the cut-outs* in this new range, the slight 70s edge with romantic detailing. I am especially lusting after the black tie-ankle pants...but I don't think the average Aussie girl is brave enough to try this style of pant. Too edgy? What shoes do i wear with them? Maybe because you do need to be tall to pull them off successfully? Pity because I think we'll see a lot of them coming through for next summer, but I probably won't end buying any for birdmotel because no one will buy them.

Vintage floral dress from Afro Funk

I have been searching for the perfect floral dress for awhile now, but you know, a good one is really, really hard to find. They are either too boring, too liberty, the wrong type of fabric, or totally the wrong shape for my body.

So when I tried this one on in Afro Funk I was in love. The colour is perfect for Autumn, the shape suits me and doesn't swamp my petite frame, plus the floral pattern is pretty without being kitsch. And the best bit, it was only $89.

Can't wait to team it with a heather coloured fine wool turtleneck underneath, a chunky cream beanie hat and tan brown vintage boots.

The cute stripey tee and the red glove combination just rocks. Love the blue, white and red barrels. Love that it is so dark that you can only just make her out as she twirls and darts. Love that fringe still. I also dig how you can hear her hand clap towards the end of the clip - that's real cool.

So, with continued 30 degree plus days still persisting in the southern states, we're now officially in cool weather mode at birdmotel! All I can think about is the Autumn 2008 Winter Shopalog.

The latest story was photographed at the most amazing house in Summer Hill, with Ash as our model. So many thanks go out to Sophie and her family (hi Luke, hope we didn't freak you out too much!) for allowing us to have the run of the place for the day. And to Jeanmarie who helped us organise it all. Can't wait for you all to see the results.

Sweet Sufjan

Sufjan Stevens performed at the State Theatre last night as part of the Sydney Festival. I am kind of at a lost for words to describe the performance. A couple that do come to mind are mesmerising, uplifting, beautiful, cerebral, genius.

His voice and the music created by him (on piano, guitar, banjo) and his amazingly young, talented backing band and brass section, reverberated through the space, making people nod, sway, close their eyes. Dreamy.

He also made us laugh. Talented and cute.

Had a fabulous birthday on the weekend, thanks to Dan and my friends who were in Sydney to help me celebrate - my birthday is at the worst time of year, so many people are away, but that

Have a good feeling about 2008. Shared the last night of 2007 with Dan, and our friends Bill and JM, at the Gazebo Wine Bar in the Cross. JM thought the place had a very NY vibe. She wore a very cute green dress from Morrison. I went for volume in the end, with a $20 smocked brown paisley silk dress from the Byron Bay Markets, so I could eat and eat.

Because I am an addicted to lists, I have jotted down some of my goals for 08:

Read more books, rather than mags
See more live gigs (off to a good start with this one - already have tickets to see Sufjan Stevens and Arcade Fire this month)

Getting the shot...

On a shopalog shoot we take 100s of photos. This is all in the hope that amongst them will be the winners - shots that convey the mood we intended, show the clothes the best, and a certain something in the face of the model.

To illustrate this, Daniel has created a stop animation video of our "stealing light" photo shoot. Taken at night, the light was obviously tricky as we were trying to get it from sources like signs, street lamps and shop windows.

There was no problem with our model Ash, who pretty much nailed the vacant-cyborg face and whose pale porcelain skin jumped out from the dark surrounds. It rained. And I mean torrential rain. But then if this hadn't happened, we would not have stumbled across the crazy Japanese game arcade, nor would the asphalt on the road have reflected up that gorgeous glossy glow, giving us that much needed Blade Runner edge.

We are frantically trying to finish our Christmas and NYE shopalog, which is looking super hot. I called in a huge rack of samples (much to Daniel's dismay) which we have since shot on the lovely Manja and the original face of birdmotel, our sweet Louise. Can't wait for you all to see the results. We promise to work our butts off all weekend to make sure we deliver it to everyone's inbox early next week.

Killer Bronchitis

I was feeling a bit crook last week, so I rested Friday and on the weekend. Laying low. Then I went to the Killers concert on Sunday night. Well, what can I say? It was so unreal, just like I expected, and I screamed my lungs out – literally! As I now have full-blown bronchitis and feel like total death.

Do not regret it for a second though. We had pretty good seats, and even though I couldn’t quite make out Brandon’s face, just seeing him jump around the stage in those slim Dior pants and the little Western vest was enough to make me so happy.

My favourite song was Tranquilize, sung with Lou Reed on Sawdust, but live, it was just Brandon’s cool voice accompanied only with Dave on guitar. It was awesome because no one knew the song - everyone belted out all their other tunes at the tops of their voices - so in an auditorium of thousands of people, you could just sit, and listen and hang on every word. Wow.

I have a big girl crush on Lily Allen. Love the fringe, and I think the 50s prom, green satin dress she wears in this clip with Common, is just gorgeous and suits her curves. She really does have GPS...like Brandon. He is so dorky cute in the Fashion TV interview. Can't believe that it is only two weeks to go to the Killers concert in Sydney, so excited. And who knew Ronnie was starting a denim label...mmmm, maybe he should stock birdmotel!

I adore Erin's dreamy, pretty, little-girl-lost aesthetic. She has definitely become one of my favourite designers, and her latest collection at New York Fashion Week was so sweetly simple but ecletic. I love this washed silk dress the best: the slightly cropped blouson sleeves, the soft waist and the white 50s inspired geek-chic glasses!

Colour

I can't get enough of big blocks of bright colours...and combining slightly off-key colours, like chartreuse with aquamarine, hot pink with watermelon, or violet with tangerine. I'm really excited about wearing in-your-face colour this summer, but even more excited that it will be sticking around as a major trend for winter next year.

Book

I didn't particularly love Miranda July's feature film Me and You and Everyone We Know, but I totally dig her quirky, vintage geek-girl style. Plus, I loved this short film called Are You The Favourite Person of Anybody? written by her. So, when I heard she had written a collection of short stories called no one belongs here more than you, I thought it would be worth a read. So far it has made me sad, and also laugh out loud. Highly recommended.

Music
I first saw the film clip for the song Lazy Eye by the Silversun Pickups about a month ago on Rage, and I just couldn't get the riff out of my head. Their whole CD is fab, so I was totally bummed I missed their gig here in Sydney.

Oh joy! Apparently I shrieked out loud when I saw the latest copy of Lula on the newsagent shelves yesterday. Stunning and inspirational as always, it heavily features one of my style icons Kirsten Dunst in some pretty amazing pictures.

Things are changing on the birdmotel website

Dan's just spent what seems like forever doing some work behind the scenes on the birdmotel website, and he's finally got it to a point where we could unleash it on the world.

Now to start with, it's not going to look like much other than a bit of a layout change to the home page, but in the coming month we will be adding Gift Certificates (finally), wish lists (that can be shared with friends via email), and an online returns and exchanges process.

Now for the the things that are already new:
* we've added a search feature, so whether you are looking for a particular product or are after something in a particular colour, it will be so much easier to find

* we have changed the check-out process to give you the option to register. This means you can just log-in on subsequent visits without re-entering your vitals. You will still be able to check-out without registering, but if you register you will get to use features like wish lists down the track, and we'll be able to provide you with a more personalised service

* you can now sort categories and brands by latest additions, price and product name

* we've added thumbnail images to our cart (shopping bag) page so you have a visual on what goodies you've got in there

* we've moved from US to Australian servers, so things like images should load faster for customers in Australia

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS:
* GST is now automatically removed for international customers upon check-out, so if you're outside Australia you can now shop for less

* we've simplified our shipping for international customers - all international orders will be sent by insured air mail.

Finally, you might have notice we've started using www.birdmotel.com.au as our default address. We choose to do this so it is clear to customers that we're based in Australia. www.birdmotel.com will still get you there, but you may want to update any bookmarks to pages deeper in our site.

After months of hard work, we are hoping the transition to the new servers will be smooth sailing, but please feel free to let us know if you have any difficulties. We'd love to hear any feedback on these changes, and also input on other features you'd like to see included down the track.

Brigitte Bardot works a cotton bikini in "The Night Heaven Fell"

On the first day of winter, I do have to get serious about swimwear. I have so far seen every shape, size, colour and print imaginable, and I need to start locking away all my summer swim orders.

It has got me thinking about what the "real girl" actually wants and needs in a cossie. If you have the time, I’d love some feedback on what styles you like best.

Are you a bikini or a one-piece type of girl? Do you like a bandeau, halter neck or the more straightforward triangle shape for your bikini top? And on bottom it gets even more confusing; ranging from the everyday basic brief shape, tie-side with strings, the low-slung boy leg, or would you wear the really cut-away on the bum shape, like an Australian style Brazilian.

Then there is print or no print? Or is a plain colour always the winner?

I personally searched high and low for a black one-piece last year. It had to be halter neck, with a low V front sitting just about the navel, and a boy cut low leg. I had no luck at all! Good thing then that Tigerlily has one in this season’s range that is almost identical to that ideal I have been carrying around in my head for almost a year.

So guess I’m sorted…what do you guys want?

Happy first day of winter everyone!

I think it looks totally hot with that mega-bright skivvy.

Brooke and Nikki soak in the love...

Congrats to Brooke and Nikita from Nookie, who last night put on an awesome party and show to launch their Summer 2007/08 Collection. The young and the beautiful descended on The Ocean Room at Circular Quay, served by wait staff in cheeky “I *Heart* Nookie” tees.

Of course, even though I did manage to down a couple of alcoholic beverages, I was there for the fashion! Lots of metallic gold and silver in sci-fi shapes strutted out in the form of baby dolls, geo shaped tanks and high waisted micro-mini shirts. Really loved a pinstripe satin jumpsuit and a ruffle front gold and black Lurex mini dress – so sexy and so Nookie. There was also a richer, more sophisticated palette of tans, reds, oranges and navy. Still with a retro feel, but perhaps more 80s in vibe.

The amazing shoes in black, nude, tangerine and aqua worn by the models were supplied by Melissa. Made from flexible rubber, they are called the Ah Heel, and are designed by Alexandre Herchcovitch. What more can I say, other than I am lusting after them and need a pair now!

Nookie Palladium Dress in New Woman Magazine

New Woman have shot several key trends lately, including chunky cardigans and 60s style. Whilst the shirt dress trend has been picked up on by Cleo magazine as their latest obsession. I think a shirt dress is one of those classic shapes and it is a style that will continue to be hot for summer.

Piper Lane

The worst thing about this year’s fashion week was that Sydney turned up the heat on the catwalk. Literally! We were almost fainting in the Cargo Hall on Friday when we saw Piper Lane strut the runway, adorned with amazing Trinket jewellery.

I am so happy to have Piper Lane as the latest brand to hit the birdmotel. I think it is fresh, sweet, wearable and so affordable. I also had the pleasure of meeting the designer behind the label, Mary-Ann, in my showing and she was so relaxed, lovely and open.

Even though we only have one of her dresses on the site at the moment – it made the cover of the winter shop-a-log – expect more in the coming months. I have ordered quite a few items from her Fashion Week collection, including the most divine white dress pictured below. The good news is that it delivers in June/July, so not long to wait!

Sweet Bird of Youth - Milk and Honey Show

Milk and Honey's Gorgeous invite

Milk and Honey presented their summer range at Fashion Week this morning in a group show with Bec & Bridge, Maurie & Eve and Sewn. Their theme was “Sweet Bird of Youth”, starting with a sepia-toned short film about one’s first love and broken hearts.

The collection included sweet, soft colours – silver, lilacs, peaches, lemons and aqua - in geometric patterned silk tops and trapeze dresses, graphic silver, black and white checks and touches of 80s day-glo. The strongest pieces included an adorable blue 3/4 length play suit and a wisp of a simple white dress.

Can’t wait for my showing where I can get up close and touch the fabrics.

Ps - Also really liked Maurie & Eve’s effort. It had a cheeky relaxed vibe and loved the daring really retro wallpaper prints on leggings and low slung tanks.

Lou and Dan working it...

Been working round the clock on our winter shopalog, and it is slowly coming together. Shot our “knits” story with Louise in a little cabin backing onto the wilderness in the Blue Mountains on Monday. It was the sort of place where the only thing you can hear is birds and the wind. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s true!

I am really happy with the results despite our shaky start. Both Lou and Dan were a little nervous about it, because the vision/vibe of this shoot was stuck in my head, and I just simply wasn’t able to verbalise it to either of them, until we arrived at our location.

All REALLY good though, the low light through the trees and the serene, slightly inquisitive look on Lou’s face, created the soft, dreamy effect I had in mind.

Lately, there has been some really great magazine coverage of items in stock at birdmotel.com. I am loving Girlfriend magazine's "Prep Up" story in their May issue, featuring the Milk and Honey Bow Blouse and the cute Ben Sherman Cable Vest.

Also, looking quite sexy is the Little Lady Wrap Me Up dress in the April issue of Frankie.

And I think the Corset Denim Skirt from GRAB, here in the March edition of Cosmopolitan, looks perfect with that slim fitting shirt, elastic cinch belt and wedges. This skirt has attached braces, but I think it looks so much better without them. I recommend simply unpicking them, and I the skirt will sit better and become a more versatile addition to your wardrobe.
